EDINBRUGH IN THE DARK

📍Rose Street, Edinbrugh, Scotland, United Kingdom

I’ve found there are cities that shine in the day, like Los Angeles. Then there are cities that sparkle in the twilight, like Venice, the city of glass. Then there are those select few that thrive in the quiet, darkness of night, like Edinburgh. When my mom and I arrived in the city at Waverley Station that night we grabbed an uber from the train station to our flat, went grocery shopping and then decided to explore. Both of us far to excited and anxious to sleep. Perhaps this is my hill to die on but I truly believe the best way to get a real understanding of where you are is to quietly go out at night and see the city asleep.

When you’re traveling it’s very easy to forget all that night time adventures have to offer. Something you may see at night you could’ve easily passed due to the hustle and bustle of the people that do, in fact, reside in that city and have the privledge to see it any day. I am just as gulity of this any anyone but a new and growing trend of ‘tourists trying to get the local experince’ has created almost an opposite effect. In trying to fit in with people who can go out their door for a quick walk to the castle or go over a block to their favorite local cafe, we tend to miss the advantage of being tourists – getting to stay out as late as we wish or being able to get as many coffees as we please or try as many resturants as we want – the possiblities are truly endless as for most it is a vacation.

I really believe this one sentence needs its own paragraph . . . it is completely within your right to be a tousits when you are, in fact, a tourist.

Above are some images I managed to snag while in my mother and I’s haste to soak up as much of the city as we could be the jetlag and everything that goes into traveling caught up with us. I don’t regret for a moment any of the lost sleep. As ridiculous as it sounds the old saying way back from my schooling days still holds true . . . I’ll sleep when i’m dead. Or in teenager translation – I have too much life to live to spend it in one place for 8 hours completely unconconscious.

Oh hey look! That’s my next post, you should check it out! While you’re here, consider leaving a comment of what you’d like to see or hear of next and I’ll do my very best to get to it! Thanks!
